Engineering Manager

Ship.Cars is a U.S.-based software development company that delivers products for the logistics industry. We’re building things to shake up and change the logistics industry. Native mobile apps, data scientists, single-page web applications, and so much more. We don’t shy away from the latest and greatest, and neither should you. The Bulgaria office is the center of the technology behind Ship.Cars building software solutions.

We are currently looking to expand our team of experts with an Engineering Manager to lead a team of ~18 specialists.

If you are ready to take the following responsibilities:

Lead and inspire a cross-functional agile team while fostering a positive work environment and providing mentorship.
Recruit and retain a strong team of highly motivated software engineers.
Work in close collaboration with product owners, lead developers, and QA to plan deliveries, manage priorities, and ensure stable and predictable execution.
Conduct performance evaluations, provide feedback and address performance issues where needed.
Identify and manage risks, developing mitigation plans while also spotting inefficiencies and wasted efforts, and proposing improvements that benefit the team.
Encourage engineering best practices, so we have a clear direction for improvement.
Work with the wider leadership team to plan and manage deliveries and report progress against objectives.

Requirements:

Strong leadership, planning and communication skills.
Strong understanding and experience in applying Agile Frameworks (SCRUM) to different situations.
4+ years of experience in engineering management roles, including leading teams of 15+ engineers.
Proactive problem-solving skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Comfortable working with ambiguity and being proactive in solving challenges.
Positive attitude and ability to take the initiative; self-disciplined, well organized and highly committed with the ability to multitask.
An experienced leader with a positive reputation and with a strong technical background.
Previous experience of backend software architectures, preferably a knowledge in Java.
